No laboring here

As you enjoy your Labor Day weekend, I’ll be looking forward to:

  • My cousin Caroline’s field hockey game against St. Mary’s, my alma mater.
  • Introducing Ayman and Mostafa to field hockey and teenage girls – I can’t imagine they’ll hate it.
  • Trying Glenn’s shrimp and risotto.
  • Covering my dining room chairs! With my zebra fabric! It’s so pretty! I love to exclaim!
  • Sleeping. A lot.
  • Perhaps running into a friend or two of mine that I haven’t seen in a while.
  • Three solid days with no references to wrinkle cream, Depends, or prunes.
  • Discovering who on earth Sarah Palin is and how she got McCain to pick her.
  • Other stuff that’s fun, like celebrating the day I met my husband…7 years ago tomorrow.

Yesterday I was the lucky recipient of 2 (TWO!) birthday clues. The back story is that in our little group of 4, each girl gets clues before her birthday to hint around as to what may lie ahead. Here’s what I got:

“It’s 3 in the afternoon, you might be feeling a little dozy. If you enquire once more about your birthday plans, we’ll tell you that you’re being nosy. Our plan will reveal itself in time, but you will have to read in rhyme!”

Now. Before you do like I did and say, Hey! They spelled enquire wrong!, let me correct you. As I was so kindly reminded this morning, enquire can be spelled either with an “e” or an “i.” just so you know. Mostly the “e” occurs in other countries across our great planet, but I digress.

And then when I got home, I had a lovely card with a baby in a diaper on the front. Inside it read, “Looks like someone’s pushing turdy! Happy 30th Birthday!” And written below that was the following:

Let the countdown begin! Only 20 more days until you’re older than me! -Anonymous

I love my birthday. I especially love that it’s started before the month of September has. Let the countdown begin, indeed!
